It has been one of the most beautiful and most visited lakes in Serbia for years Palic. It is located in the very north of the Republic of Serbia, near Subotica. It is the largest natural lake in the country, with a diameter of almost 5 km. It is 185 km from Belgrade, and can be reached in optimal conditions in about 2 hours of driving. It is 100 km from Novi Sad and can be reached in approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
Palić, according to legend, was a lake created by the tears of the shepherd Pavla, who lost his flock there, which is why the water in the lake is salty. According to another story, the lake is a remnant of the Pannonian Sea that existed in this area in ancient times.
The coast is 17 km long and is landscaped along its entire length. In this regard, hiking tours, bird watching, fishing, as well as a tour of the large nature park around the lake are attractive.
Palić Lake Beaches
There are three beaches that are landscaped, with neat grass and deck chairs, umbrellas and showers. During the summer months, and the official tourist summer season, the water temperature ranges between 18 and 25 degrees. There are beach volleyball courts as well as indoor soccer, handball and basketball courts, playgrounds for children and an outdoor gym.
The tourist offer of this region is completed by the healing properties of the water for the treatment of skin diseases. Today, rheumatism, gynecological problems, nervous diseases, as well as back and bone problems are treated at Palić. The lake is recognizable for its small but high-quality number of spa baths, where locals and tourists can experience the charms of this water in improvised wooden tubs.

In the summer months, Palić also hosts the European Film Festival, so this place gathers many regional filmmakers, actors and film critics.
In the immediate vicinity of the lake there is also an attractive ZOO where most of the animals are not kept in cages but walk freely in the fenced parts of the park. The park covers more than 15 hectares of land, and the presence of many deciduous trees gives the zoo its special beauty.
As part of the ZOO, there is also the garden's botanical heritage, which represents a collection of many autochthonous species, as well as atypical deciduous and coniferous trees and tens of thousands of seedlings of seasonal flowers of its own production. The offer of the Zoo is completed by exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, workshops, seminars, professional meetings and conferences. Annually, the ZOO is visited by over 150.000 visitors from the country and abroad.
Subotica
If you are headed to Palić, you must also visit Subotica, a city that is like an open-air museum with architecture mainly in the art nouveau style, but also in baroque and classical architecture. This is reflected in the churches (Cathedral, Serbian Orthodox Church, Franciscan Church, etc.), theater and city library, blue and green fountain. The most attractive and most visited locations in Subotica are: Town Hall, Synagogue and Reichl Palace.
Wine region
A tourist tour of Palić and Subotica is usually supplemented with visits to wineries. This part of our country is also known for its quality wines. The Palić vineyard is a wine region with a 2000-year-old tradition. A unique warm climate with a large number of sunny days, little precipitation and cool September nights create conditions for optimal ripening of the vines.
